The LED Tech Tree project at Chengdu Shimao Plaza was completed and launched in December 2020. As soon as it was unveiled, it quickly went viral online, becoming a hugely popular internet-famous landmark in the area. It creates a one-of-a-kind digital art space in the mall’s atrium.
More than just a static exhibit, this Tech Tree features seven giant LED blades stretching upward to form a powerfully expressive canopy. Its petal-shaped structures can open and close dynamically, with mechanical movements precisely synchronized to LED visuals. The project adopts indoor P5 irregular LED screens using 84 custom-shaped LED modules that fit every curved surface. Images run seamlessly from the trunk all the way to the tip of each leaf. Light streams, cityscapes and gradient colors play across the screens in turn. Digital visuals unfold together with mechanical motions, turning technical precision into a flowing visual poem. The installation comes alive, delivering a smooth and immersive visual experience.
When the Tech Tree lights up, the seven giant leaves awaken simultaneously. Dynamic imagery drifts slowly along the curved blades, and rich hues interweave and shift beneath the dome-like canopy. Visitors standing underneath and looking up feel as if they have stepped into a fantastical digital wonderland. The screen refresh rate reaches ≥3840Hz. Such an ultra-high refresh rate ensures sharp and stable motion graphics. Equipped with Nationstar gold-wire LED chips, the screen delivers outstanding color reproduction and consistent long-lasting brightness. It maintains vibrant visuals over extended periods, presenting layered lighting effects within the indoor shopping mall environment. Blending structural creativity with the aesthetics of light and shadow, it is far more than a commercial art installation — it is an exemplary work of spatial art empowered by technology.
